686 JOURNAL OF THE PROCEEDINGS OF THE Sep 18 1885 Be it remembered taht on this the 18th day of September A D 1885 the Common Council of the City of Seattle meets in its Council chamber pursuant to law. the following officers are present to wit: His Honor the Mayor Henry L Yesler & Councilmen R H Calligan, Jacob Furth, Geo W Hall, W A Harrington, John Keenen, T W Lake Chas McDonald and G W Young Where the following proceedings were had to wit: Petitions Petitions of John Collins et al praying that James Street be planked from its intersection withFront Street to Second Street; On motion of Councilman Furth the Clerk is instructed to insert Cherry Street also. and the petitionreferred to the Committee on Streets. Petition of W H Bow et al praying for a bridge on Lincoln Street North of Sixth Street. Rederred to Committee on Streets Petition of Fred Gasch et al for a sewer from Washington Street sewer through South 5th St to Mill St with necessary branches. Referred to Committee on Sewers & Drainage Petition of W C Hawthorne et al praying for Gas Lamps Corner of Madison and 5th, Madison and 6th and Madison and 7th. Referrd to Committee on Gas Lights Communication from D E Blaine offering to deliver lumber to the City in accordance with bid of E F Blaine guaranteeing that the hauling should not cost more there from any other Mill received and read, and on motion of Councilman Furth laid on the table. Communications from Allmond and Phillips offering to re-cast broken bell on tower of Engine House No 2 rec'd and read and referred to Committee of Fire and Water with authority to contract.

703 COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEATTLE Nov 6 1885 No 4336 that all the cases of the City against Powers and Meyers be dismissed at the City's Cost. Adopted From Committeee on Public Buildings and Grounds submitting plans and Specification for a stable and recommend adoption of same. Report and plans adopted and Clerk directed to advertise for bids for constructing same Fro Street Committe recommending that the petition of E F Lange for removal of obstruction in Jefferson Street be not granted adopted From Same committee returning petition of W H Bow et al for a new bridge on Lincoln Street recommending that the same be not granted. Referred back to Committee From Same Committee reporting that petition of C B Bagley for opening road in Mercer's addition had been complied with. Approved From same Committee requesting that the Council as a body examine and report upon the petition of the Northwestern Cracker Co. for a Sidewalk on the West Side of Front Street From Committee on Fire and Water returning communicationof a F A Minick in regard to Salary of Engineer No 1 with the recommendation that the salary of Engineer of Engine No 2 be reduced to $75.00 per month. Adopted From same Committee reporting on repairs etc. made on Engine No 1 also on repairing Engine House No 3 at Lake Union and hanging bells in No 2 & 3 Report adopted ordered filed.

453 COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEATTLE May 4 1888 Petition of W E Williams for opening Renold Place Read and referred to Street Committee Petition of W M Morse for permission to use certain streets and alleys for storing lumber necessary for the erection of Armory Building Granted. Petition of F T Blunk asking for a street railway franchise. Read and referred to Street Committee Petition of W H Bow for permission to change building on Commercial Street opp Arlington Hotel. Read and referred to Committee of Public Buildings and Grounds. Resignation of Capt Jas H Woolery from the Police Force of the City. Read and ccepted. Deed from Terry heirs received dedicating a portion of Lane Street and ordered filed. Monthly Reports Received. From Police Justices Jones and Soderberg. Referred to Finance Com. From Chief of Police Read and ordered filed. From City Treasurer Read and referred to Finance Com. From Health Officer Read and ordered filed. From Street Commissioner Referred to Street Com and returned approved. Committee Reports Received From Street Committee rejecting the petition of J D Smith andothers for the grading of Second Street from Pine St the Depot Street. Adopted.

465 COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEATTLE May 11 1888 deposited with the City Clerk as a forfeit in case petitioner failed to construct a cable road in accordance with the terms of Ordinance No 890 granting a Street Railway to franchise to said company, read & referred to the City Atty. Petition of Geo Kinnear for establishing the grade of High Street between Temperance Street and Banner Street read and granted. Committee Reports Received From Committee on sewers and drainage recommending that an Iron Stone sewer be constructed in James Street from Second Street to Twelfth Street the same to be of ten (10) inch pipe from Second Street to Eighth Street and of Eight (8) inch pipe the balance of the way. Adopted and the purchasing Agent directed to order the necessary pipe. From Committee on Fire & Water granting petition of W H Bow for permission to make certain alterations and repairs to wooden building on the West side of Commercial Street near Main Street. Adopted. From Street committee granting petition of J A Stewart & others for opening Second Street to a width of ninety (90) feet from Battery Street southward to the center of Blanchard Street and grading and building sidewalks on both sides of said street. The committee also recommend & that the surveyor be instructed to submit plans and specifications for said work and connect this district with the assessment district on said street extending from Depot Street to Battery Street heretofore ordered widened and graded, Adopted. Applications for Licenses referred John J Gearey, James Weir and Chas H Fox
