698 JOURNAL OF THE PROCEEDINGS OF THE Oct 16 1885 From Same Committee receiving petitionof S Sloane et al praying that North 7th St be opened and extended from Blanchard to Battery and recommending that the same be granted when convenient. Petition returned to Committee for a more definite report. From Committee on Sewers returning the petition of F Wilhelm et al for a box drain East side of 5th St between James and Cherry Streets with recommend that the same be report adopted From Same Committee returning petition of Fred Gasch et al for a sewer from Washington St sewer through South 5th Street to Mill St with necessary branches recommending that the same be granted. Report adopted From Same Commitee recommending the construction of a sewer in Union Street. On motion a sewer is ordered constructed in Union Street and the Clerk authorized to advertise for bids for the construction of the same in accordance with the plans and specifications to be filed.

78 JOURNAL OF THE PROCEEDINGS OF THE Sep 3 1886 Be it remembered that on this 3rd day of September 1886 the Common Council of the City of Seattle meets in its Council Chamber pursuant to law. Present Mayor Shoudy and Councilmen Frink, Green Hinckley, Lake, Russell & Reitze The minutes of the last meeting were read and approved. Petitions Received & Read From P G Beigninane for permission to erect an Oyster Stall at the foot of Marion Street. Referred to Street Committee From F Lange for the removal of a tank in Jefferson Street On motion referred to a special Committee Consisting of Councilmen Hinckley, Russell and Reitze. From Seattle Gas and Electric Light Co for the opening of South 5th Street between Main & Jackson Streets for the passage of teams. Referred to Street Com. From M Korn et al for Street Lights on Washington Street at the intersection of each crossing up to and including South 11th St/ Also a light on the line of Mill Street at the junction of South 11th Broadway and 9th Streets. Granted. From H Lysler for permission to place a small wooden building on the vacant ground between the Yesler Leary Building & the Starr Building on ]]Front St]] Also a small wooden building adjoining the Times Office on James Street. Granted. From Wm Murphy et al for a Street Light of 32 candle power placed on the left of Main Street at the intersection of the Railroad. Granted.

245 COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEATTLE Aug 5 1887 Seventh Street & West Street Ass't Rolls Pursuant to law and published notices the Council now proceeds to examine and equalize the special assessment Rolls for the Assessment Districts established by Odinance No 843 for the grading of West Street from Cedar Street to Virginia Street and to build sidewalks thereon. and by Ordinance No 848 for the grading of Seventh Street from Madison Street to Mill Street & Building sidewalks thereon, and no one appearing to contest either of said assessment rolls and no objection being made to them or either of them. On motion it is ordered that said assessment Rolls be and the same are hereby approved. Councilman Reitze moves to instruct the Clerk to advertise for bids for lighting street for the ensuing year. Referred to Committee on Street lights. His Honor the Mayor having stated to the Council he will be absent from the City for some weeks, on motion fo CouncilmannJ M Frink, Councilman Furth is elected Acting Mayor during the absence of the Mayor by unanimous vote of the Council. On motion the Council now proceeds to open and examine bids for the Improvement of Seventh St from Madison St to Mill Street; of Mill Street from a point between South 4th & South 5th Streets to Williamson Street and of Madison Street Extension as follows viz: Seventh Street Bid of Finch & Henderson Sidewalks per M[thousand] B M[thousand] $15.85 Box Drains per M[thousand] B M[thousand] $15.85 Bid of P Quigley Earthwork pr Cubic Yard 45 cents
