773 COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEATTLE Apr 2 1886 Be it remembered that on this the second day of April 1886 the Common Council of the City of Seattle meets in its Council Chamber pursuant to law the following officers being present to wit: Mayor H L Yesler Councilmen R H Calligan, J Furth, G W Hall, T W Lake, Chas McDonald, J J Post and G W Young thereupon the following proceedings are had. The record of the proceedings of the previous meeting are read and approved. Petition Communication etc received; For E J Ross et al for the abatement referred to committee on Health and Police From Fred Blenkins, for permission to conduct a public laundry, on motion the petition is granted From L V Schnyder, for permission to conduct a public laundry on motion the petition is granted. From Schwabacher Bros & Co for the payment from some general fund of Warrant #146 on Jackson St sidewalk fund ordinance #335, referred to finance committee From C C Otis et al for establishment of grade and estimate of cost of improving 4th Street from Battery to Virginia on motion the petition is laid on the table From Toklas and Singerman for permission to erect a wooden shed in the rear of the San Francisco Store, on motion the petition is granted

193 COMMON COUNCIL OF TEH CITY OFSEATTLE May 20 1887 Petition of C C Otis & Others for grading and building sidewalks on Fourth Street from Bell Street to Union Street. referred to street Committee Committee Reports Received FromComittee on Fire& Waater on petition of B Gatzert, G W Harris, J M Quilter, Geo Kinnear and others for a new Hook & Ladder Truck recommending that the petition be granted and suitable Hook &Ladder Truck purchased the price and pattern to be submitted to the Council for its approval. From Samecommittee granting petition of M McAndrews & Others asking that Ordinance No 549 be so amended as to exclude that part of the City South of the South line of Mill Street and East of the alley between Commercial and South Second Street from thefire limits onmotion the petition and report is referred back to the Committe From Finance Committee granting petition of Alex McLain for striking off $16.50 of his taxes from his assessment roll of 1886. Adopted. From Same Committee granting petition of Maggie A Barker for refunding taxes to the amount of $9.00 it being a double assessment and the Clerk directed to draw a warrant in favor of said Maggie A Barker on the General Fund Adopted From same Committee grantign petition of Fred Minick forpayment of services rendered by said Minick a Sepcial olice officers. Granted & Clerk directed to draw a warrant in favor of same for the sum of Thirty Seven & 50/100 ($37.50)dollars on the General Fund.

200 JOURNAL OF THE PROCEEDINGS OF THE Jun 3 1887 Communication from Park Commissioner's calling the attention of the Council to the condition of the Park and asking that steps be taken to prevent depredation of animals therein. Referred to Committee on Public Buildings and Grounds with power to act. Monthly Reports recieved From City Atty for Month of May read & ordered filed From Chief of Police for Month of May read & ordered filed From Custodian of Powder House for Month of May read & ordered filed From Justice Jones for Month of May Referred to Finance Com From Justice Soderberg for Month of May Referred to Finance Com From Jailor for Month of May Referred to Finance Com From Street Commr Referred to Com on Streets and returned approved and ordered filed. Committee Reports Received From Street Committee on petition Citizens of Houghton in regard to the road to LAke Washington recommending that the petition be laid onthe table. The Committee state that they will repair this & other roads leading into the City as soon as practicable. Adopted. Fourth Street Grade From same Committee on petition of C C Otis et al to grade Fourth Street fromBell Street to Union Street and build sidewalks on bothsides of said street recommending that the same be granted. Adopted and the City surveyor directed to survey said street and establish the grade and that an assessment district be created in accordance therewith. From same Committee rejecting petition of J G Kenyon for permission to erect a wooden building adjoining the Kenyon Block on Front St adopted.
