EL TEMBLOR.

A Very Significant Eathquake Spanish Expression.

Throughout the newspapers of the Pacific Coast, especially during the present earthquake boom, the word, 'temblor' is frequently seen in descriptive mention of the peculiar phenomenal earthquaking disturbances and resulting damage to human superstructure. Temblor is simply a Spanish word, which, in this connection, signifies a shaking or quaking of the earth's surface. Its English signification is also given in the Spanish dictionary as "involuntary motion proceeding from fear or weakness," analagous to trembler or trembling in American language. Strictly interpreted, "el temblor de la tierra," is the trembling of the earth. Earthquakes of greater or less force and effect are historically reported throughout the Spanish countries of the Pacific Coast and California, makimg the word "temblor" very familiar with all old residents, as well as with subsequent population. El temblor has not been a very destructive guest or visitation on the Comstock thus far, yet "quien sabe" -- who knows what might happen?
