Christmas. Slept late—till 9 oclock call from Lucy Fisher woke us.
2 oclock family dinner at Jim + Lawrence’s; I carved the country ham.Went by Sandra Saunders’ at 4; suggested she give Tunkie’s Trollope collection to Rhodes as a memorial gift. Home by 5—too full to think of anything else to eat. Bed by midnight. Cut off gas at source, thus ending fear of asphyxiation. Fortunately (as usual on Christmas) weather is warm—mid 60’s. Rain heavy + incessant; reports of serious flooding in West Memphis +Millington; a foot of rain in past 48 hours.
