Through out these 24 hours light baffling
airs from the Sth W ward. Steering by
the wind with our starboard sails. [Observed?]
two ships in sight. One a head and the other
on our weather quarter. Boath [both?] standing
to the Sth E ward by the wind. Latter
mend our fore royal and send up the
fore and mizzen royal yards. So remains.

36 Sunday the 31st
Began with a light breeze from the
W ward that lasted through the day.
At 2 PM sent up the fore and mizzen
yards and set the sails. Two ships in
sight. Steering to the Sth ward by
the wind. Middle and latter part
gentle showers. The day being the
Sabbath no labour done more than
necessity required. So goes all well.

37 Monday the 1 fst of September 1834
The day began with a light breeze
from the W ward. Ship under all sail.
Steer by the wind to the Sth Ward.
At 3 PM raise two ships a cutting
sperm whales. At 5 oclok [o'clock] we raised the
whales banked and lored [lowered?] directly and
gave chase but could not get hold.
Picked up a small whale and at sun
set got hur [her?] along sid [side] and lay by hur through
the knight [night?]. At 8 AM finished. Made
safe [safe?]and steered on our course. So remains.
