The day began with light airs and
clowdy [cloudy] weather. All hands employed
in butting. At sun rise got thee [the] head
off. Middle the wind blows a bout
West. At 8 oclok [o'clock] AM finished butting
the boddy [body]. Chained head and send
all hands below. At 4 PM called
all hand and began to boil. At 11
the chain parted and los [lost] the head.
Latter part heavy gales from the SW.
Ly by continue boiling. So remains
all full of life. No obs Lat 36:30 from
count. Long 22:20

80 Monday the 13th
through these 24 hours strong gales
a bout Sth W. Ly by employed
in boiling. Middle [remarkable?] abt heavy
squalls attended with hale [hail]. Latter
part the gale rather a bates but
the swell continues and the ship
labours hard. So goes all well.

81 Tuesday the 14th
Began with a strong gale from the
SW ward. Ly by with our larboard
tanks on board. Employed in boiling.
Middle and latter part the gale
a bates. At 10 oclok AM set our
top sails and steered SE. At 4 PM
raised sperm whales. Lored and struck
three. Lost 1 line. Turned up two but
lost one of them. So goes the time.
