the morning. Turned on and
out in our whale. At 8 finished
and made all possible sail in
hopes of finding our dead whale
but saw nothing of her. At
sun set single reefed our top
sails and steered to the Sth ward.
So ends. Lat obsd 36:1 [only 36:1 noted] Long 21:00

83 Thursday the 16th
Began with light breezes from the
NW ward that lasted through out
the day. At 9 o'clok [o'clock] AM squared our
yards and steered ESE. Saw several
whales in course of the day and
chased but without success.
Stand hole watches through the
knight [night]. Carry all sail employed
in boiling. So remains. The wind [illegible] [Ner?]
Lat obsd 36:17 Long 20:10

84 Friday the 17th
First part light airs from the
NW ward. Ship under all sail. Steer
ing E by Sth. At 4 oclok [o'clock] AM the
wind shifted suddinly [suddenly] to SSE.
At day light finished boiling. Latter
part fresh winds with rain at
noon. Singled reefed our top sails
and stand boat watches. Stee [Steered?] by
the wind. So remains. The wind
SSE. Lat 36:10 per count
