Dark cloudy weather, attended with squalls & rain with a large swell from the northward at noon steered southeast by east downe, thinking if that shoal had been on the island Ceylon that we should have made the land butt proved so thick that could not lee that land two leagues. Halled up desiguing to make it upon an east coast. In the morning steered east, saw bark of trees past by the ship with small pieces of reeds, likewise the water very much discouloured, not usual to the eastward of the island. Find the ship 26' to the southward. Course S. 43° E. 49. southing 36 easting 43
