Barbara and her new daughter, Beverly Ann, called Honey, were seen at the Hillcrest Hospital iu Pittsfield ou Friday, August 11th. Barbara seemed well, and very happy over Beverly. She has been in the hospital one week, and expected to go home Sunday 8/13. Developmenst now seem to indicate that the British sailor whom she had thought cou ld be the father, count not possibly have been, as conception must have taken pace place before her birthday, Dec. 23 which is when she met the sailor. Dr. George Vash (pronounced Vawsh) must be the father, as she admittedly was living with him at that time. He was the attending physician, and the nurse said he butchered Barbara pretty badly. The birth was a natural, but she is cut as mu h as though she had a Ceasarian. She says the child looks like hime him the second time she saw him after the birth

she accused him of being the father, whereupon he became furious, left the hospital and discharged Barbara the next day so that she was discharged in eight day. Apparently he does not think well of the idea of acknowledging Beverly, nor contributing to her care. Barbara's mother says she should sue him, (but of course she always wants to sure everybody) Dr. Vash has recently married a local girl in Hinsdale, where he is trying to start a practise. I saw Beverly, but never saw Dr. Vash, and probably could not tell anything if I had. Beverly has a big mole on the right temple, but if she ever gets any hair it will be unnoticed, She really seems like a beautiful child - Heaven help her.

Barbara has ambition to keep and support her. Toby paid her first week hospital bill $51., bought her a complete layette, and has brought her flowers and ice cream every time she could get off from her job at Westover.

I do not know another person who calls themself "friend" who has done so much for Barbara, knowing frankly that the possibility of being repaid is slim. Certainly her mother has not. Barbara is grateful for the things sent from here.

Shuold we offer assistance in getting {Doctor} Vash to assume paternity, or consider the case closed? He cannot marry Barbara now, as he is already married.
