Dear {Doctor} Van Waters:

It was so lovely of you to make arrangements for Miss Kelley to come to see me in the hospital. I was so happy to see her. We did not get much chance to talk about the future and I am very much at sea about what is best for baby and me. I'm torn between the desire to home her with me while she is so little even though I have to take do-

-2mestic work to do so, - and the burning ambition to start out on a career that pays well from the start - to make her proud of me in the future, for I am all she has. I want her to be proud of me. If I wait a year the opportunities may not be there. But she will never be so little and sweet again and my heart just aches for to have her with me now. I know she is in excellent hands but still I'm jealous of every second she is there. What is right and best {Doctor} Van Waters? I

-3might be able, by advertising in the paper, to find a place to board us both where I could work nights and take care of her days or some such plan. I would like to stay in Pittsfield - my friends are so much comfort to me. You spoke of a place in Northfield. Could you tell me more about it. The job I spoke of was at Westover Field. If I wait the six weeks until my organs are all in place etc. I'm sure I can pass their stiff physical and get a choice of Hostess, Dental Asst., or mechanic, all of which start at $30-$35.

I want to thank you also, so much for the large quantity of baby clothes. [Beverely?]-Anne wont need any clothes for over a year with all those lovely things.

-4a week.

Before I run out of paper I want to tell you that the baby is fine, eats very well and is just in grand shape. She now weights 5lb. 6oz. Did Miss Kelley like her? I came home Sunday and she left Sat. and I haven't seen her since. I had hoped to go to see her Wed. but it looks as if I may have to be restitched today as the old ones opened up on one side. I don't know if I have to go to hosp. for this or not. I hope not, my debts just seem endless as it is.

I plan to come down to see you as soon as I get adjusted to talk about the baby's father. It is best to wait a while. Please answer soon as I await your advice. Respectfully, Barbara

Dear Miss Kelley:

I can't say how sorry I am in being so long not writing. I came home from the hosp. that Sunday and stayed in all week until Thurs. and went Thurs to see Beverly. Fri. I went to Mrs. Grandshaw's mother's funeral. I also applied for a job. They called me Sun. afternoon and told me to come to work Mon. A.M. So I have been working all this week.

I wrote {Doctor} V.W. 2 wks ago but have no ans. I hope she is not ill.
