northern latitude.
17. Erythrina corallodendron.
18. Erythrina crista galli.

19. Phytolacca dioica.
These three highly ornamental trees grow and
thrive in the open air in Lisbon without requiring
any attention, all three reach the heigt of from
20 to 30 feet. Nothing is more magnificent than
the blossom of these two Erythrinas, no shade is
more pleasant and thick than that of this Phytolacca

20. Trapa natans is one of the most beautiful
plants of the fresh water swamps, the fruit is not
bad and if sold in the market, it can be procured
from France, where they call it Macre, and the fruit
chataigne d'eau.

21. You could procure from England the Arundo are-
naria, to cover and keep together your loose sands
on the sea coast.

22. Portugal could furnish you the sweet lemon
and the sweet lime, sweet and refreshing fruits
more healthy than the water melons in hot seasons.
Limon doce — Lima doca — are their Portugues names

23. Naples could furnish you more than twenty
varieties of figs superior to any thing of the sort that
I have seen in America. Twigs could be sent in sand
to engraft here on your fig trees, or to propagate by
themselves.
