cenoscopy, because it rests on the experience of all men
distributively taken, and must be acknowledged by all.

Now I wish to inquire what this science, or cluster of sciences called
collectively Cenoscopy has to do. The first step toward a response to this
interrogation is to consider by what means that answer is to
determined. Any science
whatever must be investigated methodically; and the
methodical way is first to inquire what is true and especially
what principles govern the truth. That is to say, every
study of truth must, in order to be successful, being by being
a heuretic science, or a study of truth for that truth's sake.
