Wyoming N. Y. July 29th

My dear Miss White I was very glad for your full interesting letter though I have been slow in acknowledging it.

You certainly had as narrow an escape as our auto[ ?] who seem to be again at their best as I hope you are.

President Angell certainly complimented you very highly. The University of Michigan stands at the very pinnacle of excellence in my estimation.

I received a letter yesterday from one of my grand daughters in London - Susanna Shanklin who told me of an invitation they had received to hear Dr. David Starr Jordan speak of Peace at the house of Madam Selfridge - after the address they were invited to tea & met Mr. and Mrs. Fels there It delighted them & pleased the [Fels ?] for we had met. They are interesting & excellent

people and we hope sometime to have a visit from them in our Wyoming home.

My interesting and long time friend Mr. Angell -- not the wife of President Angell - (whose daughter is the wife of Prof. Warthen of Ann Arbor who is coming to be reckoned as a moral force in & out of the University have just gone to Europe.) writes often, long & interesting letters. She is one of the old time scholarly women and helps to keep me in touch with much that I value & the longer I live the more I value my friends. And just here before I forget please tell me if you know anything of the family of the Professor in whose school you taught mathematics & have lost sight of his wife and family. I cannot recall his name & I do not like to lose out any of my old friends.

I am much gratified by the reports of the Budapest meetings by Miss Shaw & Mrs Catt. I regret that the anti suffragists are so bitter and so opposed to what seems

to be most important.

I read the Womans Journal with increasing interest & am often shocked at their attitude.

I hope I may at some time have opportunity to talk with you on some of the points that trouble me. i.e. If the 800,000 women would all wish to vote, how soon the white slave traffic would be eliminated & most of the other immoralities that afflict humanity. Perhaps I have said all this to you before.

Mrs. [Davies] reached us yesterday from Louisville & I am simply shocked at the attitude of the politicians in that city

I hope the women of Louisville will leave nothing undone to promote the highest good of the people.

I hope you are as well pleased with

our Administrator as I am. I may have mentioned this before. I know you will be lenient with me if I repeat myself.

Next Week Booker Washington is coming to speak in Village Hall & at Warsaw our county seat - He is to be our guest.

I am always glad to receive one of your good letters.

I am sincerely your friend Susan Look Avery

Remember me kindly to your sister in law.
