a lacquer cane, B & C. silk, etc. Worked with
books between times. Prayer meeting night - didn't
go.

August 19, 1922 - Saturday

Spent all day working with the remains on my
floor, mostly music, magazines, manuscripts
but finally got it all cleared away; had to put all my
"teaching the deaf" material in the bottom of my big
trunk. The 3 lower shelves pretty well stacked up, but a
good deal can be weeded out - in time. Mrs. C. wanted
to go for a walk last eve, but both Miss P. & I too tired to
accompany her. They went to see the sick, at hospi-
tal [hospital] & elsewhere this eve. Have been "hard at it" so that
I've had to have my bath after dinner nearly every
day this wk; Th., of course, & this eve, however, I
managed to dress before dinner. Have read over
the inspection book. Got a letter from Margaret P.,
Shirly Gill, the Y.C., a new "Asia", & an "American", by
the last mail; so suppose the latter is what the S.S.
class is sending me. My b.c. doors will have to have
all the glass washed & polished, but don't know when
this job will get done. Miss P. cleaned my topee for me-
good of her; awfully glad, as Mrs. G. or someone had
already told me it needed it; no news to me, but no
time for trifles. Dhoby came;put clothes out to sew &
later put them away; sewed tape straps on union
suit, last of the 3 that had silk ones; am glad that job
is off hand. The A's came to call this a.m. I didn't see them
& took Mrs. C for an auto ride all around the city, they
were to leave on the noon train.

August 20, 1922 - Sunday

The organ has at last been repaired. Wen to S.S. & ch. as
usual; the pastor away, so one of the laymen officiated
in his stead. Ma T.M. sent word that she was ill so
wouldn't be over to read John in B. I caught up on the
dailies; cut all the papers for the 5 pictures that
need them pasted on back, but when I went to use
the glue it was leaking from the bottom of the tube
at such a rate that I had to run for my trunk tray
and daub it on that as best I could; even then I
spilled a lot on my clean gown, the floor, etc. Mrs.
E came in in the midst of thngs; it seems to me she
always comes at the most inopportune times - from
my point of view. Things are very dry once more.
Haven't gotten around to reading my Nat. Geog. yet,
much less the vol. of Kipling Dr. McL. loaned me. The
ballot came for us to vote for Conference officers
& Ref. Com. Members; the other 2 sent theirs off last
eve, but as mine wasn't handed me till bedtime,
I didn't mark & mail till today. Rehung several
pictures & placed some ornaments on bookcases; my
dresser looks much better since I've been able to get
some of the things off of it, also leave it all silver in-
stead of a hodgepodge; silver needs rubbing up, as does my
brass; hope I'll get all these things done some day.
See previous page; altho' it is rather formidable
looking it didn't take as long as I expected.
