August 23, 1922 - Wednesday

Had a fine rain last night so it is somewhat cooler
today. Ripped taking off old corset cover & began on that
on old waist; tedious jobs I've avoided long enough.
Attended school prayer meeting this aft; if they had it
last wk. I forgot it, so got a dig about it - that I'd never
been, but corrected that, as I attended regularly before
the meetings. Have been reading the 1922-3 Ed. Code
which just arrived the 1st of the wk; am now also perus-
ing [perusing] the Y.W.C.A. monthly leaflet, and the Aug.no. of the
Judson College Quarterly, which one of our last yr's
girls kindly sent. Was also handed the Village Teachers'
Journal to look over, but haven't gotten around to that
yet, & don't know when I shall. There always seems to be
something imperative just ahead. I've gotten out Mace's
"Lays" to read, but don't know when I'll have time to be-
gin [begin] it; also want to read their other reader "Maneater's"
& their two Eng. Histories, Bks IV & IX.

August 24, 1922 - Thursday

Another good rain last night, consequently much
more pleasant today. Mr. & Mrs. H & baby over this aft;
the nurse came for the infant & took him home to feed
him, after which we went over to the new building
and went all thru it; they did not leave till seven & then
we had dinner almost immediately; fortunately I'd
had my bath. Sewed a snap on my white crossbar & mend-
ed [mended] the torn lace on right sleeve. Must get at those
corset covers ere long, as my others are nearly all worn
out; several of my gowns are going too, sad to relate.
Finished ripping tatting off waist, later washed both
it & waist.
Fri eve Read over the printed comments on the re-
sults [results] of the last gov. exams; couldn't make much
out of it, however, without the questions; also the H.S.
questions for tests made out by Mr. A. & Ma T.; Miss
M's are not ready yet.
Forgot that darned bandage so
left off & think I won't wear any more; I'm always
forgetting it, & with slippers, mosquito net, light
etc, it's such a nuisance to get up again, &
I so often get a mosquito under the bar when I return,
& then that means getting up again. I believe I'm
freer from heat now than I have been since I've been here.
