Status: Needs Review

To the Hon. the Secretary of the Interior

Sir

The undersigned respectfully
represent that the Mojave Indians
a peaceful people living on the Colorado
River are now in a suffering condition

This is in consequence of the sucession
of unfavorable seasons for raising the
food upon which they subsist

The Government made some provision
for them but as the Agent Mr Herman
Ehrenberg, appointed to receive and dis-
-tribute the supplies, has failed to qualify
having business of his own to attend to –
and the supplies are wasting away

Therefore we pray you to appoint Mr.
J. Q. A. Stanley, of this place, a loyal
and good man, as Agent or Superintendent
for the said tribe. with whose wants
and condition he is familiar, to the end
that the humane intentions of the
Government may be fully carried out

And your petitioners will ever pray
