Sir
R McKee Esq the [illegible] of this letter was formerly Indian Commissioner and [illegible] subsequent date agent of Indian Affairs in California. He has an unsettled account and is [desiring?] of closing the whole [illegible] [illegible]
He has [illegible] attempted a settlement and is liable to pass away being

left a [illegible] to the government This is a very undesirable position for a citizen to be placed in He says his vouchers are all [illegible] and he only wants a settlement of equitable and [illegible] principles.
He comes with letters from the Collector at San Francisco and [de Paol?] [illegible] [illegible] also; and it is due to him for me to say [illegible] [illegible] [illegible] a [illegible] [illegible] [illegible] as a citizen and [illegible] man. His case shows [illegible] practical [illegible] of [illegible] appt of a good man to claim [illegible]

I dont know [illegible] [illegible] I may take this occassion to thank you for many favors and general [illegible] [illegible] toward my self since I have had the pleasure of [illegible] [illegible] and to express my deep regrets at [illegible] [illegible] of your position.
