Hon John Conness
Dr Sir - By telegram to day [today] I hear the House have passed the Ammendments to the Constitution proposed last session. This is a long step in the right direction and I thank God for it. I have not heard from any of you this session I hope my address has not been forgotten. I have heard nothing from the Auditor in regard to my salary as Physician to the Mendocino Ind. Reservation approved by Com. Dole & sent to the Auditor for payment over a year ago. I have not heard one word from the Auditor pro or co. I gave Dole's letter to [Combs?] when he intended going on as a delegate to the convention and he lost it or Snyder did for him and I forgot the exact date of its approval but think it was Jan./64 the amt is near $700. Please give him a hint to attend to this [illegible?] in the course of a year. If you have not [time?] to see to this please hand this letter to Shannon or [Wrigby?] and [illegible?] they will look after it for me.
I have no news to write unless it should be [news?] to you that Frank P[Name?] is going to make [illegible?]

for the [Senatorship?] to succeed [Name?] all [the?] has [commenced?] early but [illegible?] you from all about it. I hope to have a vote in the matter any way but do not think Frank will get it just yet he acted too shabbily in the Hardy [impeachment?] case to fill my [illegible?],
I was away up in Shasta at Fort Crook when Bryant [illegible?] went east and [illegible?] not the most [illegible?] idea what any body is after in the way of office. I hope there will be some changes [especially?] that of the Physician to the M[illegible?] Hospital. If there is any place for one in the [bill?] I shall receive it thankfully and account for it properly.
There is very great need for a special Ind. Agency in the [illegible?] of Goose Lake to take charge of the [illegible?] [River?] Goose Lake [illegible?] Valley and other Ind. on the main route to [illegible?]. They are now [litteraly?] out of any [superintendency?], our Supt knows nothing about them the one in Nevada never comes that far over and [illegible?] nobody looks after them and they are very troublesome during the summer. Do not forget to put me on your list for the "Cong[illegible?]." Very truly yours to command J. M. Ames
