Yuba City California December 3, 1864

Honor Mr. P Dole
Commissioner

Sir, I am just in [illegible] of a letter from
late [illegible] [initial?] J. Henley Esquire requsting me to send him a
copy of my report to you in regard to certain property
the claims a credit for which my [prediction?]
[name?] had [illegible] to agent Gerger for
and afterward refused to receipt to [illegible]
[illegible]_consisting of Horses, mules, oxen 40
on refering to your letter of instruction dated
November 4 1861 I find endorsed on the
back reported in favor of [Name?] J. Henley" But
I have searched in vain for the copy of said
report _ and expect my clerk failed to copy it.
Suffice it to say there is no doubt whatever
in my mind but the horses, mules, oxen and
cattle were improperly turned over by [initial?]
Geiger to [Name?] and that he [initial J. Henley
is justly entitled to a credit for the [illegible]
and not V. E. Geiger

Will you please send W. Henley
to San Francisco a copy of the [illegible]
