Marysville. March 1st 1865 Hon Wm P. Dole Comsr Indina Affrs Sir I by leave to inform you that I hold a power of attorney to collect from the Indian Department all the money due David E. Hamblen for cattle sold the agent in 1863. for the Round Valley Indian Reservation. I enclose you a copy of the power to collect, and I desire the money will not be paid to any one but myself or my proper order. I sold Hamblen more than half the cattle he furnished and have advanced money to him for the balance he owed on his purchases and he has transfered me the whole claim. Subject to a deduction he pays of about $1500 or $1800 for Indian goods he sold. he dont know the exact ammount. My principal object in giving you this information is to solicit an answer, 1st as to the exact ammount

[covering?] on his [claim?]- 2nd. whether this power of attorney is such as you will [requires?] and [3rd?] if the money is ready for me in Was hington [Washingthon] or San Francisco[?] I hold a check for [$28750?] given by the agent for the first lot of cattle Hamblen delivered [illegible] for which Hamblen gave the agent ([illegible] Hanson) a receipt or voucher, but which has never been presented for lack of funds. The last lot of cattle came to about $[illegible] total about [$9,025.00?] I would prefer a check direct from you for the ammount due on the claim, for it You send it to San Francisco, it may be used for other purposes. As I am told agent [illegible] [illegible] (afte having [positioned?] orders to pay Hamblen.) Hoping to hear from you at your earliest convenience I am very truly yours Wm. P. Hanson P.S. the certificate of Co judge to Hamblen acknowledgement and certificate of Co Clerk to the [official?] act of paid judge I omit in this copy W.P.H

Know all men by these Presents that I David E Hamblen of Colusa County and State of California do hereby appoint William P Hanson of Sutter County and State aforesaid, my attorney in fact irrevocable; with full power to make [&?] appoint a substitute, and in my name, place and stead, to ask for demand, receive, recover and to [illegible] for, all sums of money, debt dues or effects whatsoever; due and payable to me from the Government of the United States by the Indian department [department] of the Interior. And to do and perform all and every act necessary for the purposes aforesaid; wherein I ratify and confirm all the acts of my attorney aforesaid as fully and binding as if done by myself In [illegible] [illegible] I have set my hand and seal this 22nd. day of Feb A.D. 1865.
