To the Commissioner of Indian Affairs, Washington City,

Sir,

On the 7th [June?] I transmitted you a package of papers received from Saml [Samuel] P [Semper?] & [illegible?] of Marysville California in the matter of a balance due by the Department to Dr S Hastings deceased. I wrote you at some time explaining why the papers had been so long delayed it being [illegible?] to my [illegible?] in Tennessee & also that I held a Power of Attorney from said Semper to receive payment of the balance due if is such the approved of the Department. May I trouble you to inform me if the [document?] have been [received?] that I may advise Mr Semper accordingly. I have thought possibly the Department preferred paying him to avoid complication.
