Marysville Cal June 19th 1865

Hon Wm P Dole

Commissioner of Indian Affairs

Sir I am this day in receipt of information from D. E. Hamblin that he has forwarded to you the desired information in regard to the goods which he disposed of, and also what he returned. He says he has made some small error which you can correct. In view [illegible?] of an immediate [remittance?] to me of all the balance due to him on the two lots of Cattle sold to the government I enclose to you his power of attorney made to me also the check which the superintendency agt gave him for the first lot of 220. I said [illegible?] $4284.50. The second 242 head amounting $482790 He says was certified to by the agent in a blank voucher and forwarded to you in 1863 and the whole lot receipted for by agent Steele to agent Hanson which I [illegible?] will appear in your office [numbering?] in all 462 had besides 108 calves which he informs were gratis so it seems the amount total is $911240 from which you are to retain the amount of goods disposed of by him & remit me the remainder

I hope however in this matter your Department will bear in mind that Mr Hamblin was to have received the money on delivery of the Cattle in the agent when currency was worth more than it has been since.

And that owing to the Change of Agents of that time the money was sent to the successor who refused to pay and Mr Hamblin has been [ruined?] in [illegible?] having to borrow money at California interest; 2 per ct per month. It is therefore nothing but equity and justice that usual interest be [illegible?] to the balance due him which should have been paid 21 months ago. Hoping to hear soon.

I am very Respectfully Wm P Hanson Att for D.E. Hamblin
