Sir:

I address you at the request of Col R. McKee late Indian Commissioner who informed me that after several years delay, his accounts have been referred to your office for settlement. There is one item in his accounts, which has been disallowed at the Department, probably on the strength of a report I made on it, on the 15th October 1853 - in which report I am now satisfied on a reexamination of the papers, I did Mr McKee injustice. My decision was that I could only allow him for salary, and expenses to the 5th May 1853, the date on which he received my letter of the 31st March 1853, from Washington.
