Sir:
I have to acknowledge receipt of your [favor?] of the 8th of April, enclosing Commission for B. L. [Fairfield?] to not as Special Agent for the Round Valley Reservation in this State. As soon as he has complied with the necessary requirements [illegible?] upon his accepting this appointment. I shall transmit him his commission with [illegible?].
In this connection I would state that I have just returned from Round Valley when I [illegible?] to receive the [illegible?] property and that while there (anticipating the appointment of Mr [Fairfield] and as a necessity I appointed him temporarily until the arrival of the commission from Washington.
