Office Indian Affairs San Francisco Oct 28th 1865

Sir:

I have the honor to inform the Dept that on the 5th of May 1865 I received from the late Supt Indian Affairs Austin Wiley Esq the sum of $697.87 in legal tender [notes?] the same having been recd [received] by him on the 20th of March 1865 being included in the Treasury Draft No 6050 Int Warrant 7617 for $4230.74 the [difference?] $3532.87 was paid over by Mr Wiley to [interested?] parties (as [illegible?] by the Dept at Washington) the balance $697.87 yet [remains?] on hand and for which no disproportion was made by the Dept. I would now request that the amo [amount] above specified be appropriated to the payment of claims against the Indian Dept incur during [illegible?] Hanson & [Driebelbis?] administration and would particularly call the attention of the Dept to those of Geo [Rs?] [Pritchard?] [illegible?] for $105.26. [Illegible?] of [illegible?] $220.50 and John Eagan $366.67 all these claimed

I am well satisfied [illegible?] correct and just and should be cancelled the two former are included in the List No 1 claim & Nos 6 & 53 of indebtedness [illegible?] under Mr Hanson and the [illegible?] in List No 2 claim No 7 [incur?] under Jm Dreibellis Superintendency and transmitted to the Dept under late of Dec 14th 1764 in compliance with [illegible?] [illegible?] under date of July 28th 1864

The claim of John Eagan was for services rendered on the Mendocino Reservation in 1861 and I would add that the [man?] is [illegible?] [illegible?] being a [cripple?] and on [illegible?] and in that condition has been applying at this office for the past year in regard to this amo [amount] due him. I [trust?] this as well as the other claims will receive the [favorable?] consideration of the Dept.

Very Respectfully Your Obt Sert Charles Maltby Supt In Affs Cal

Hon D. N. Cooley Commissioner Indian Affairs Washington D.C.
