I hope that the claim will meet with a favorable consideration as I have faithfully rendered the services claimed and hope that the Government will remunerate me.
I hope you will pardon me for writing at length but as there has been a change in [your?] Dept I thought a small history would not be amiss.

Sir
I have a claim filed in the Ind Dept for the sum of three hundred [and] [illegible] (316.000 dollars. For services performed while overseer of Thomas Creek Station Nome Lackee Reservation the evidence that I have is the written letter of Supt Mc[Duffie?] and the verbal statement of Supt Wentworth made in the office of Com Dole.
The matter was refered to the Hon [illegible] of the station he writes that the [illegible] could not be [illegible] without the affidavit of the claimant or the the [illegible] of the Jas [James] [initial] McDu[illegible]. (I [illegible] that he has been killed in the Rebel Service) I forwarded my affidavit [illegible] the Com of Ind Affairs.
As the [illegible] was not very large and I worked for the amount claimed I hope that the Hon Com of Ind Affairs will [give?] the matter his favorable [consideration?].
Hon Com of Ind Affairs Charles Cochran
