Junior Sophisters only shall be eligible Sec 6th It shall be the duty of the Vice President to act in all the capacities of the President in case of his absence. Sec 7th There shall be a common Secretary; who shall also serve as Librarian: to which office Senior Sophisters only shall be eligible.-- Sec 8th It shall be the duty of the Secretary to keep a regular journal of all the proceedings of the common Society, to read all letters, resolutions and writings laid before the Society, to call the names of the members at the opening & close of each meeting, to transmit the names of the delinquents to the Judicial Committee of the Common Society, and also to give any member a dismission who may request it & present a receipt from the Collector of the full paymentof his bills. Sec 9th It shall be the secretary's duty as Librarian to keep an exact account of all books taken from and returned to the Library, to assess all fines for damages done them, and for not returning them in due season as prescribed in the laws and to transmit the same to the Collector. Sec 10th It shall be the duty of the Librarian, when any book or books shall have been newly received, to announce them within one week, by inserting their names in the blank leaves of [three?] catalogues Sec 11th There shall be a Treasurer, to which office Junior Sophisters only shall be eligible. Sec 12th It shall be the duty of the Treasurer safely to keep all money and property of the society and to pay out such sums as the Presidential Committee shall direct. To establish order, to promote improvement, and useful knowledge, and to render serviceable every advantage which may be presented to us; We, the members of the Philoma thesian Society in Mid dlebury College have adopted the following

The philomathesian Society shall be composed of such persons only as are members of College.

[in margin] Mem= bers, on what condi tions ad= mitted

Sec 2nd. Each student upon admittance into the Society, shall pay into the treasury thereof such sum, not under twenty five cents, nor over five dollars, as the Society shall be Law require; and also a sum not less than twenty five cents, not over one dollar, at the commencement of each succeeding term, during his residence in College.

It shall be the duty of the presidential Commit= tee, to select books for the Society library, when di= rected by the society, to receive or refuse books which may be presented to the Society, and with the Librarian, to make all necessary regulations for preserving the Library, and keeping the same in repair.

The foregoing committees, together with the Librarian, shall be chosen at the last meeting of the society, pre= ceeding every commence= ment, for one yearensu= ing.

Sec 8th

[in margin] Perma= nent elections when to be made.

All permanent elec= tions shall be made at the times hereto= fore mentioned, when no other business shall be done in the Society, except that for which the Constitution makes particular provision.

If, from nonaccep= tance, or want of suf= ficient members in any Class, to fill the offices appropriated to that Class, such office, or offices, if the deficiency happen in the Senior Class, shall be filled from the next succeeding class, or classes, if in the Jun= ion Class, so much of

Sec. 10th

[in margin] Permanent elections shall be by ballot & a ma= jority to make a choice.

All permanent elections shall be by ballot, and a majority of the whole members present shall be necessary to make a choice.
