Mrs E. A. Lewis

Dear Madam

I have your note of and I find the bill of $15.70 which you paid in 1873, was for care $2.00, plants $1.00 - cutting [?er] $6.00 _ and for setting the stone $6.00.

From the papers left by my predecessor & from your note to him, I did not judge any leading was intended, however, if you understood that the lot was to be fixed up as at first I will have it [?] [?ed], without expense to you, as I do not want any proprietor to pay a bill without receiving what is a fair return. I shall thus be giving you for $6.20 what is worth $15.00

The clamping was a suggestion of my men, the lot like many others here never having been clamped.

Hoping this may be satisfactory

I am yrs very truly
