3rd 1 mo 1837 I believe it snowed during the whole of last night. The wind blew strong at West, and the weather cold. This morning it was smothering snow storm, the wind blew it up in drifts. It continued to snow the whole day. it is many years since there was so much snow fell so early in the season, in so short a time. It think it must be a suffering time with sheep and other creatures, running at large on the common land. The wind is not very strong at West but the weather is very thick, which will cause it to be difficult for our whale ships to arrive in safey. A number is ow daily expected.

4th 1 mo 1837 This morning the weather is very fine, small wind at WNW and a bright sun. The ground is covered with snow several inches deep, which affords excellent sleighing in the streets, and the opportunity is improved by a large number. I noticed the fences & buildings, a [VAPORIZE?] steam arose, which indicated falling weather. In the afternoon the clouds in the western [BACKGROUND?] began to collect, and appeared like falling snow, which was verified at night with the wind at SE, a small breeze.

5th Wind North, Cold. Many sleighs running in the streets & some went to Siasconset Town night. The weather was chilly. In the evening a snow storm. Cold increased.
