1837 2nd 1 mo This morning the wind was SW Some snow. Much of the Ice in the harbor was disappeared, several vessels viz. 2 Bedford Packets & one two others left the harbor and got over the Bar. Soon after the wind came at NW with snow, rain, Hail and Slete [SLEET], one or two vessels came back. The Silas Parker, Abram Macy went on & probably got to Old town with the Representatives to the General Court and many other passengers. In the afternoon and evening much snow fell, sufficient for some sleighs to course through the streets, which is the first snow of any consequence this season.

The scarcity of money still prevails which is a great obstruction to the business of the place, and to distress all classes more or less. Nothwithstanding provision of all kinds are exorbitantly high. The Island is pretty much well supplied with wood & coal, there is about 100 cord now on the wharves for which they ask 9$ for oak 7.50 for Pine, Coal 11$ per ton. There is also much corn at 1.10, Flour, rather a small supply at 11.50

I think it will be very distressing with many of the poorer class the coming winter. Provisions high & very little labor is severly felt by many people.

2nd 1 mo A vessel arrived from Stonington with dead hogs. [???]
