23rd 2 mo A small wind this morning at South and looks likely for a storm. The [???] in the ice at the back of the Bar, at 10 o'clock got clear of the ice & steered westward. In the afternoon the wind changed to SE & blew a heavy gale with snow, then much rain & a very cold storm. The Mail Packet arrived safely.
24 The ice very much broken up by yesterday. Rain storm & wind.
25 Fine weather wind at West in the afternoon, the wind veered to WSW, a great number of vessels left, some for Boston, some for New York and other places. Some o f them had been confined with Ice for two months. The ice mostly gone out of the harbor. The Ship Phoenix, Isaac Hussey, arrived from Old town & came to the wharf. The harbor being open, it produced a great stir among the business folks.
26 Fine weather, the Steam boat arrived from Fall river, where she had been to be repaired.
27th Fore part of the day small wind at SE - latter part, wind at South with much rain.

11th 3 mo By the date it is Spring, but the weather is more like winter than spring. Now & then is a pleasant day, but long coming & soon away. the harbor is mostly free from ice, but the docks are still full of ice.

We have had a long hard winter, but the poor have suffered but little. Provisions have been plenty but very dear. Flour 12.75 Corn 1$ to 1.10. The best of sold beef 22$per barrel, Molasses 18$. Wood very scarce & dear the last sold for 12.5 per cord plenty at 11$ per ton.
