Very fine pleasant weather, gentle wind at West.

Our markets are full of country produce but very dull to sell. No sale for Oil & Candles some of Coasters have returned with their Cargoes, and taken their sails ff to lay for the present in hopes of a better market, at a future period. Corn dull sale at 68 Cents, & flour at 7 $ to 7¼ It is to look around & see from 50 to 100 men standing idle for want of business, and 20 or 30 Carmen with their teems [TEAMS] waiting for employment. The Coopers shops shut up, for want of sale for their Cask. In short the times appears gloomy. But yet, some who have money are building houses. A large Schools house is building at the back of the dwelling house of Robert Jay.
The building of the Camels are going on rapidly with a prospect of launching in a few weeks. The most of people consider it a loosing [LOSING] concern from an apprehension that the expence will be more to get a Ship out and in with the Camels, than in the old fashion with Lighters, but all hope they will be disappointed, that the Camels will answer a very good purpose.
