the Brigade the winter was passed
quite pleasantly. Rations & c being
quite plentiful. During the winter
the 18th Ga. Vols. joined the Brigade under Col Warford, As
brave and gallant a site as ever
made a charge or raised a war
whoop, and so identified did they
become with the "Texas Brigade" that,
they called themselves the 3rd Texas.
March was upon us, and the dull
monotany of "winter parts" had to be
exchanged for the more stirring
scenes of an active campaign.
The evacuation of the Potomac was
decided upon. The Army began
the evacuation in and near the
5th of March - and turned their
