January 17: day. Barometer 29.40 to 29.60. Keeper get wood on the beach at ???. 2nd Asst. cleaning out the barn.
18: Gale to fresh breeze S.W. to West these 24 hours- with frequent rain, hail, and snow squalls. Sea very rough. Baromerter 29.60 to 29.68. General duties for the day- Keeper went to Newport after mail and supplies.
19: Light North East to variable winds these 24 hours with frequent snow squalls. Sea quite rough. General duties for the day- Barometer 29.68 to 29.91. 1st Asst. went to Newport after mail to post mail and get supplies.
20: Light S. East wind to fresh breeze and gale South these 24 hours. First part of 24 hours cool and fair. Last part of 24 hours cold rain. Sea smooth. Barometer 30.15 to 30.00. Keeper & Asst. putting 200 gallon of oil in oil butts.
