Johnny Cochran, Dick Powell, Pete, Don Knapp, Sig. Weiss, and I contributed odds and ends a fasct ±n mHHfcx'H KBBa for a midnight feed at ten o'clock In Monty's room. Had toast, jam, milk, and marshmellows, toasted over 3 rin roaring fire. On Feb, 9, the temperature was 5 above in the morning, there was a slight covering of snow on the ground, and Pete and I rearranged the hangings in our cozy, little nook. We've got the cloth you sent facing the door with the bulldog's head dominating all the colleges from the center. O Feb. tenth, there was a track meet between the gym classes as there is every Friday. I placed first in the 40 yard dash at in 5 and two-fifths seconds. Also our relay yeam, on which I run second, broke the gym class record. Also Bill Harding and I each got a demerit for letting our childish instincts get the better of us late at night. We were having a dandy wrestling match when all of a sudden in a flash I looked up and beheld the face of our beloved (no sarcasm) house master who had been watching us for half a minute and did not look very pleased. Then we went to bed. On Feb. 11, Bill, Virt Cates, Al, Bill Brainerd, John Woolsey, and Dave Knapp, and I left for Easton on the 12:10 train left at 12:40. We rode around in Boston by taxi which with the seven of us cost very little. We went to the Andover-Exeter hockey game which Exeter won 4-6. The losing team always has to have an excuse and we've got some pretty good ones. We had up to date only three ice practices, and no games, while Exeter has been practicing pretty regularly and has played three of four games. In practice before the game our goalie got hit in the eye with the puck and had to play the whole game with the sight of only one eye. The other goalie was in the infirmary. These are enough excuses. I met Al Mayer at the game talked with him a good deal. After the game we went to a movie, The Sign of the Cross, at the Paramount. After supper at a small cafeteria, we went to the B.k.t. games at the garden. You have probably read about them in the papers. George Spitz, Wycoff, and a lot of other famous track stars were there. There were the three Yale men in the finals for the Dole; tevault, Keith Brown, Andover M, won the event. He tried for the indoor record but failed. The Andover-Exeter relay was held about $:15. We won in one of the most exciting races of the evening with a time better than many of the college 1 teams. Our anchor man, Furse, was 3 yards behind when he started but beat his man by about six yards. We left Boston on the 11:40 train, got back to Andover, and hiked up the hill in ten inches of snow which had fallen during the day. I cut chapel this morning and went skiing all afternoon. Got a letter from the doctor at camp in answer to one I wrote him. He's going to be back this summer.

De?-r Mother and Dad:

This last wefek has been quite- an eventful one. Yesterday was disapoointing to all ajndover men in the athletic line. Exeter beat us in! the swimming meet and in the basketball game. Exeter's basketball team.was suooosed to be the best in .years and ours one of the worst, but even so, they 'only managed to win a 28 - 20 victory. We were conceded an even chance in swimming, and the contest was certainly cibose. They finally beat us 33 - 32 after winning the relay which turned out to be the deciding event. In the evening, the dramatic club made a fine presentation of "Seven Keys to Baldoate". The acting was exceotion-allyiwell done, and it went off without a break. 1 I wonder how the banking holiday has affected you? Up here everybody seems to be short of money, and the school is accepting I.O.U.'^j for tickets, etc. I red in the Phillipian that the Princeton daily has had scriot issued for the students 1:6 use which is acceoted in all the downtown stores. Also, I don't want you areested for hoarding. You'd better get all that gold of yours back into circulation . I got through my exams finally. Leonard gave us a chance to finish the English exam we started about five days before. About five in the class f nished so he gave us make up questions for 'those we missed. I got an 88, but all the marks In the class were high. I'm sliooing in history. In the two 'tests we've had I've got an 82 and a 78. That means I've got to do a little wirk for the final. '* I've been out for baseball three or four times. Haven't made the squad, but I've still got a chance. It seems that he counts entirely on'batting as there hesn'ft been any fielding practice while I've been out there. I was hitting pretty gaH& she well the first times" out but last time I couldS' t tiit a thing. Vfy exams are over on Wed. , the 22nd at six o'clock. I'll tell you when I'll be ,jhome next Sun.

Phillips Academy Andover, Mass. April 23, 1933 Dear Mother and -Dad:

This last week we've had our first taste of Aeal spring weather." Tuesday it was dry enough to go outside for baseball, and since then, except for a little wind now and then, the weather has been fime. I've had a pretty sore throat along with a little haed cold all week and didn't go out to athletics a couple times because of it. I bad it treated several times at the infirmary and now it is almost gone. I'm glad to see by your letter that you are getting outside for a little exercise even if it consists only in drawing a rake oteer the lawn and going to Sunday school. Last Sunday in the afternoon there was a voluntary communion service in the churh so nobody went. The Phillipian says that compulsory o-hapel might be cut out next year on Sunday afternoon. The student body is all fin favor of a free Sunday afternoon, as they have uo at Exeter. I am wearing my new flannels for the first time to-day and they look pretty fime. I got an invitation to t&a over at Claude Fuess' house SKS for this afternoon.JHe started a series of Sunday afternoon teas last Sunday which eventually will probably include most of the student body. I hooe he doesn't serve tea. Yesterday both the baseball and track teams made a trip to Hew Haven to play the Yale Freshmen. Both lost incidentally 13 - 3, and 70 - 50. Hdlf of the Yale fceama teams were composed of former Andover men. We took seven out of thirteen firsts which isn't so bad. Only fouteen of the baseball squad went so naturally I didn'tj. However I am looking forward to making some of these trips next- year. concert of the The annual Andover-Exeter glee clubs' and orchestras was held la^st night. It went over pretty well, I think. Al Mayer and Morty Corbett, two fellows I knew at Central were irj the Exeter glee club. Corbett used to sing in the Central glee club and now does solo work with Exeter. Thjey were both over at my room from 3:30 until supoer. Tjhe Exeter fellows weren't very happy when they heard that we were having a movie which they had a month before Christmas while they were missing Cavalcade afe Exeter. The Core escapes are becoming more and more popular every day. Every sunny afternoon almost the dorm is out thejre sunning themselves. Five or six fellows are sleeping ourt every night. We put mattress*es and blankets out there and it's oretty comfortable. That's all for now exaept that I want to thank you for the brownies and other stuff. I ate almost all the brownies myself in two qays.

Sun., May 14, 1933 Phillips Academy Andover, Jass.

Dear Mother and Dad: My Mother's day greetings are a little late, but they express the same spirit that something else would have done at an earlier date. Now that ratings are over and we have a little time to relax a bit, everybody is thinking about home and vacation. I would like to have you come up but it probably wouldn't be worth the trouble. Yesterday was a pretty full day for me. In the morning I had three classes in a row, one a physics exam, and another with MS. Tower, who is just about the dearest teacher in school. The glee club concert with Bradford was last night at 5111 Harding. Wirt Cates and I had planned to take the bus with the rest at 3:30 after the track meet. The track meet lasted longer than we expected, so we decided to take the train into Easton at 6:30. Bill and Wirt took first and second place in the track meet pole vault respectively, and John Badman came within a quarter of an inch of equaling the school record. He holds at six feet, one and one eighth inches. After the meet we dressed and packed our evening clothes and started out to get to the 4:38 train, but on the way down we decided to wait until 6 :00 and went to the Abbot tea dance in the meantime. At 6:00 we ate the food. There wouldn't be a train until 7:00 so, having been joined by another, misinformed, Bud Moyer, we had a bite to eat and waited for the train. Upon arriving in Boston at 7:50, we took a taxi and rushed to Jordoh Hall where the concert was held up about ten minutes while we dressed. It's a lot of fun trying to get into a tux in a hurry! After the concert, which went over very well, not having heard or tried to hear what the program afterward was, we changed into our other clothes, and went out to have a bite to eat and fool around in the big city for an hour or so. I don't like beer! Then went back and danced with the Bradford girls until 12:00. We took the bus and got home about 1:30. Walking across the squad rangle, we three felt so sleepy that we lay down on the grass for ten or fifteen minutes while we gained enough strength to go on. Took a shower, got in bed at 2:15, woke up at 7:00 from force of habit, got up at 8 to wait, went to chapel and here I am. What a Day! I suppose you got the rating report.? If I didn't honor in English, it was a mistake as it has been changed. Since Bob came through with four. Which was quite a surprise! Ray only flunked 8 hours, and Norm passed French with a 65, partly due to my help no doubt! I am sorry to hear how your back turned out O.K.

the clippings you sent, but I assure you they were read with interest. Write the details about this reunion of yours. I am going to take my board exams at fetome as §rou know. School ends either the 14th or 15th, and I was thinking about coming home right away and going to the senior prom at Central, but that isn't important. I'm way ahead of you in the game of cricket. El Richardson, who has played cricket all his life instead of baseball, explained It pretty thoroughly to me.

Leland and family came up yesterday and brought me quite a lot of fruit for which I was duly thankful. They were going to have me over for breakgast but didn't find me until after chapel.By the way, the faculty voted to cut out afternoon chapel, and if the trustees approve of it, we'll have our Sunday afternoons free from now on.

I don't know whether to get me a pair of sport shoes of not. Black and white ones whic, are very popular and durable sell for five dollarsup here. Please inform on the subject.
