AUTHOR'S ACKNOWLEDGEMENT

The preparation of this pamphlet owes much to the help of Punahou people who have given freely of their time and their materials.
Frank Berger's blitz diary, Hubert Coryell's account of this experiences during the same period, Helen Campbell's scrapbook record of Punahou Service and the many stories written by pupils in their English classes all provided "sources" for this chronicle.
Margaret Young, Aileen Forrest, Ebba Chaffee, Lucinda King, and Esther Silverman have read the manuscript and given invaluable criticism in subject matter and in form.
