A meeting of the Council of the Corporation of the City
of Kingston was held this day. Present
His Worship the Mayor
Aldermen
Carson, Clements, Dunn, Gardiner, Eilbeck
Gildersleeve, Harty, Hiscock, Hobart, Little
McIntyre, McKay, Redden, Robinson, Thompson
J. Wilson
The Clerk read the minutes of the two last meetings
A Communication from W. L. Creyton Esquire Bank
of Montreal Re removal of trees - Referred to the
Committee on Streets
Ald. Gardiner, Carson, Little
brought up the petitions of Joseph Lafaniere & Chris J. Jamieson
& others, W. W. Graves & others, John Maloney & others, A.L. Richelieu & John McMahon & others
Re street watering
On motion of Ald. Gardiner seconded by Ald. Carson
Ordered, That the petitions relating to the Street
watering be referred to the City Engineer to ascertain
if the required number have signed, and if so, to have the
streets watered and the By Law amended to Cover the
location referred to.
Ald. Eilbeck brought up the petition of Benjamin
Allen and others Re opening of Charles street. Referred to
the Committee on Streets.
Ald. Thompson brought up the petition of William
Ford, Jr Esquire and 400 others suggesting that the grounds
formerly used [strikeout]occupied[/strikeout] as burying grounds bounded by Ordnance, Alma
Balaclava and Ray streets be converted into a Park.
On motion of Ald. Thompson seconded by Ald. Harty
Ordered, That the petition of William Ford
and 400 others be received and that the Mayor
appoint a Committee to wait on the different Religious
Corporations Controlling the grounds named in the
petition and ascertain what arrangement can be
made whereby the City can secure Control of same
for the purpose of adopting the suggestions and prayer
of the petition and that the Committee appointed
report at the first [strikeout]next[/strikeout] regular meeting of this Council
held in the month of July
The Mayor nominated the following Committee
Aldermen Carty, Gardiner, Gildersleeve, Thompson
McIntyre, Hobart and the Mayor
Ald. McIntyre brought up the petition of
James Weir and others praying that measures be taken
to abolish the running at large of cattle in certain
localities. i.e. Alfred, Frontenac and Albert streets.
On motion of Ald. McIntyre seconded by Ald. Carson
