My dear old Nan
Many thanks for your letter. I hope I didn't hurt Mother by my last epistle. I didn't mean to. I got the Mhor's effusion, for which I am much obliged. Can you not get Altarstone for September? Do try. If you won't look for a house, then I am helpless, & it is not my blame if you don't get a holiday. My

proposal about your pocket-money is settled. So haud your tongue!
I dined on Friday with the Gathorne-Hardys & explained to Isabel how much I disapproved of her marriage. On Saturday I went out to Clapham to lunch. Aunt is in Scotland, & Uncle & Maud are both well. They are staying in London till far on in August, so there is plenty of time for you to come up. Then I

went to a garden party, & then dined with the Craig-Sellars in the evening.
On Sunday I lunched with the Balfours of Burleigh & met Johnnie Forbes of Medwyn & the Borthwicks. Old B of B. gave me two stricken hours on the Church Bill & has loaded me with a mass of papers to read. I think the old fellow is sound. What nice girls his daughters are! I never seem to have met them before & fell in love with the lot, especially one aged 5, whom

Sargent is painting.
Last night I dined with the Francis Buxtons & was taken to Bernard Shaw's 'You never can tell', which is very amusing. I had tea with the Attorney-General at the House of Commons & heard part of the debate. I think it is very likely that I may have to give evidence before the War Scandals Committee.
With much love
Your affectionate brother
Jock.
