My dearest wee Mother
I was very sad to find from the 'Times' that the poor Mhor [Alastair] had not got a scholarship. We can only hope that this week's exam. may bring something, as it is more to his style. Anyhow he must go to Oxford; we will manage it somehow, and of course you can always get an Exhibition after you go up. Susie, so we are all going down to Littlehampton the day after Xmas for a week. I don't relish the prospect of living in seaside lodgings in mid-winter, but the doctor recommends it.
We had very good speakers at the Personal Service meeting yesterday - about 700 people. Mr H.B. Irving spoke very well, & also Salisbury. I was fair, I think. This is not my subject. I saw the Flemings there.
Susie got up today. Her cough is very much better, but she is groggy on her pins.

Much love to all
Your affectionate son
John
