My dearest wee Mother

I was very sad to find from the 'Times' that the
poor Mhor [Alastair] had not got a scholarship. We can only hope that
this week's exam. may bring something, as it is more to his style.
Anyhow he must go to Oxford; we will manage it somehow,
and of course you can always get an Exhibition after you go up.
I hope the poor laddie is not very disappointed - I wonder how
he did in this week's exams.

Mr John has got an abcess in his honourable throat,
& is very cross. Both he & the Wozer need a change, & likewise
