My dear Buchan,
Your letter is a very great pleasure. I told the publishers to send my book for I thought several times as I wrote it 'I wonder if Buchan will like that.' It occurred to me when the new edition came out that very likely you hadn't seen it & never would see it

so I tried to mak siccar - I've had some good notices - the Journal of the Geographical Society of America said "We have not read many pages before we see that we are being shown round Scotland's famous metropolis by an old builder)' but you've made me very proud.
I think some times of McMillan - he is largely Charteris - and intend to have a go at him & another type the undisciplined Keelie who meets the world in his middle-age - & other Clyde quayside types, but after I get through my work here its a dim man I am.
I shall take your invitation
