This is a cold grey day. Susie is still in bed, but her cough is very much better, and I think will soon be away. Alice & John are going to a party today at the Raphaels, We had a line from Alastair. He seems to have liked the first [Oxford entrance] paper yesterday. I dined last night with the Sumners & met a lot of lawyers. To night I am dining with the Olivers.

Rugby football by 13 points to 3. I did not think the Rads [Liberals] would hold Wick by such a majority. The corrupt little electorate, voted, I suppose for the man who had most power to help on the harbours etc., as the wily Mr Gulland advised. I hope S. Lanark does better on Friday. I fear the "flood must flow", as Johnnie Jameson says.

I seem to have little news today. Ian [Nelson] sails for India to-morrow. I must see him off at Victoria.
