My dearest wee Mother

I am writing this very early in the moring in
order to catch the post-girl who brings up letters.
Today is St Swithins, & also the anniversary of our wedding.
Saturday was a poor day, but yesterday rained without
intermission. Today promises to be better.

I took the children a long crawl on Saturday & we
found a wonderful ravine full of giant mulleins &
evening primrose. Yesterday we went a walk in the

Susan Buchan and the children spent time during the First World War in rented houses in rural Kent. JB would join them, if he could, at weekends. Prinstyles was one of these.

This letter must be 1918, since William, JB's second son, wasn't born until January 1916. Also 'Eminent Victorians' wasn't published until 1918.
