My dearest little Susie
I had a very pleasant journey north last night, sleeping soundly the whole way. It was cold in Scotland & wet & beastly in Edinburgh. I had a very good breakfast at the Caledonian Hotel, which was packed with soldiers & then came up to the office. George [Brown] has not yet arrived, but I have been reading the Riot Act up and down the different departments. It looks as if it were going to going to cheer up now. It is not cold, like a regular dripping spring day.
How is the "Rochade" going in London. There is a very

interesting list of V.C.s in the paper today. I see the Gunner, whose guns Francis helped to save, has got the V.C. It is sad to see how many of the recipients are now dead.
I have got all my lantern slides from [Parrett?] & they look a very good lot. I expect I shall make a fiasco tonight. My throat is practically all right now.
I hope you got my wire in good time this morning. I sent it off at 8 o'clock.
Much love to you all. I miss my little one & the blessed little people every minute of every hour
Your ever devoted
Mr. [Fozz?]
