My dear little one

I am writing this late at night (Monday), as I am
off at break of day tomorrow to the Albert district [words crossed out in blue crayon by censor] to see the
3rd Army. This has been a gorgeous autumn day. I went to Sir
John French's house in the morning, where I saw Jim Salisbury &
Lord Grenfell & others. I took Lord G. out in my car to the 9th Lancers,
where we found Arthur on great form. He looks vulgarly well & very happy.
Beale-Browne & Reynolds struck me as two of the finest soldiers I
have ever met. I have written a line to Hilda. Then we went on
& saw Cis [Cecil] Bingham, who has now the 1st Cavalry Division. He lives
in a beautiful old chateau which Marlborough once besieged.
This evening I have been to dine at the headquarters of the 11th Corps, which

Lord Grenfell was uncle, I believe, to Arthur Grenfell, and his brothers, Francis and Riversdale. All of them were in the 9th Lancers. Arthur was married to Hilda (née Lyttelton), Susie's first cousin.
