My dearest old mother
I was so sorry to hear that Cameron
Corbett had failed. Susie & I discussed the matter
last night. I have written to John Maxwell, as he
is the likeliest, living close at hand. If he fails I
will try Lord Ardwall. If it had not been the
Autumn session we might easily have got a
politician like Haldane or the Lord Advocate. The
best draws I suppose would be people like Graham
or Tullibardine or Nick Campbell, but it would
be difficult to bring them from the other end of Scotland,
and we could not offer to put them up.
Don't worry, old mother mine: we will find somebody.
