My dearest wee Mother
This is a wet ill day. Yesterday was a fearsome day of rain & wind. I struggled across the park to Pont Street & found [ST: Revd] Dr Fleming immersed in funeral sermons - Dr Norman Macleod of Inverness, & Dr Donald Macleod (formerly of St Columba's), who died suddenly yesterday morning. He was very good. A queer old wife who says she met me in Glenormiston came up & spoke to me afterwards.
Susie was up yesterday for 4 o'clock & was rather tired. Prester John is very well & well-behaved. He cries wonderfully little for a

baby. Alice is a splendid little creature just now, so strong & firm, & such an outrageous flirt. Living at Grosvenor Street [ST: my mother's house] suits her health, as she has more room to run about. Mungo is back from the vet.
I seem to have no news today. Anne Douglas has asked Alice to a children's party next Saturday, but unfortunately she can't go. Nurse Lucy goes away next Saturday. I have no news to-day, except that I can't get my Xmas presents finished. I wish I could be with you this week-end. I am always thinking of you, & wondering how you are, my poor wee body. I hope Nan is taking care of her health.
Much love to all
Your affectionate son
John
