I have to thank you warmly for the copy of Ardwall which greets me here on my return, & to thank you for having written it. It is just what it should be, concise & picturesque. One may regret thet you have not given more of the ipsissima verba of his talk, which was fit to rank with Braxfields at times but perhaps you have used a wise discretion. Your observation that he was not cocksure of what was true, but had an unerring

certainty of what was false, is a good one.
