Oct: 24: 13
My dearest little Katzen
I have been thinking about you the whole time, & wondering how you were. I hope you got my wire in good time last night. I had quite a comfortable journey & get H. Cox [ST: a journalist Harold Cox] at Carlisle, who was very pleasant company. It

was freezing bitter hard at Symington and I found a lot of frogs [ST deletes frogs, writes farmers] who had been at Lanark sales. Mother looked very well & Nan much better. They gave me a good dinner & were delighted with H.C, who is very pleasant. We were 10 minutes late at Walkerburn. It was not a very large meeting but they were

Roberts looked better. There is no water & no fishing. I am going to grow a big red beard, for I cut myself 3 times shaving this morning. My throat is much better. We are going on the [Mill] in Selkirk to-day & then up Yarrow. I may have to go into Edinburgh to-morrow, in which case it will be a wild rush
Much love, my bonnie wee angel, & my love to the dear children
